The German schools abroad scholarship programme: awards for the best

In the school year of 2009/2010 some 16,700 school students around the globe completed their education at one of the 140 German schools abroad and the 870 Language Diploma schools.

As from May 2011 German schools abroad that have been deemed worthy by a Federation-federal state inspection team will be awarded the “Excellent German School Abroad” quality seal in the form of a certificate signed by Federal President Christian Wulff.

Centres of excellence in Africa: top training for the decision-makers of tomorrow

The Federal Foreign Office and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are supporting master and doctoral training of the highest standard with five centres of excellence at important African universities. In terms of content, the focus lies on subjects of major social relevance. Across subject divisions, emphasis is also being placed on building a close network of partners for the democratic and economic development of Africaand cooperation with Germany.

Centers for German and European Studies: A lively, borderless knowledge network

They are important institutions for research on Germany and Europe and drivers of innovation in academic training: the 15 Centers for German and European Studies in eleven countries focus on contemporary issues that transcend the boundaries of individual disciplines. The aim is to educate a young generation of experts on Germany and Europe that will work to achieve international understanding and cooperation. They link the academic, political and public spheres in the country where they are based through their focus on Germany and Europe. Within the framework of its research and academic relations policy the Federal Foreign Office promotes the Centers through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin-Programme: creating a space for art

For twelve months, the artists live and work in Berlin at the invitation of the German Federal Foreign Office, the Berlin Senate (city government) and the DAAD, engaging in an exciting exchange with the city and the German cultural scene. Creative freedom and artistic dialogue are the central ideas behind the programme. The aim is to enable the artists, while in Berlin, to devote themselves fully to their work, free from the pressures of market mechanisms and censorship.
