the official launch of the financial literacy initiative
The Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) is a national platform initiated by the Ministry of Finance and supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The FLI will officially be launched on Thursday, 15 March 2012 – coinciding with the World Consumer Rights Day. The launch will take place at Soweto Market, Katutura and the Minister of Finance, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila is expected to deliver a keynote speech. Other speakers will be the Governor of the Bank of Namibia, the Director of the Namibia Consumer Trust as well as a representative of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Further launches of this Initiative will take place in Swakopmund (29 March) and Arandis (30 March) in cooperation with the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, NCCI.
The main objective of the Financial Literacy Initiative is to enhance financial education for individuals and micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises. More than 30 partners from the Namibian public, private and civil society sector strive to address the needs in the area of financial literacy and consumer protection in a coordinated effort. The Initiative aims at creating awareness on good and responsible practices both for private and business financials.
The main theme of the first financial literacy educational campaign “Be wise” will cover financial matters around saving, budgeting and spending behaviour. The campaign is directed to individuals as well as micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises in Namibia. It will comprise interactive approaches such as street theatre, TV and radio shows, cooperation with schools, workplace activities, and training for entrepreneurs, supported by print material such as posters, flyers or booklets.
The public is invited to join the premiere of two different street theatres at Zoo Park in Windhoek on Thursday, 15 March between 13:00 and 14:00. A training for micro-entrepreneurs will be conducted on the 15 and 16 March in Windhoek in cooperation with NCCI (two half days) For more information contact 085 5619910 or (061) 247129.
