Doppelkopf – Express yourself!
As part of the global campaign “German – Language of Ideas” the German Embassy Windhoek, in association with the Goethe-Centre, the Namibian-German Foundation for Cultural Cooperation (NaDS), the University of Namibia (UNAM) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is organising a competition on language and identity.
Hoping to inspire enthusiasm for the German language, this competition focuses on the German language and its meaning for German speaking people in Namibia, be it their mother tongue or as a foreign language student.
Persons who speak more than one language add new facets to their identity and provide themselves with new opportunities. The competition is supposed to encourage thoughts about one’s own identity as somebody who speaks or learns German. Furthermore, it invites all participants to reflect on their identity and what role the German language plays in this regard.
All those who are interested are cordially invited to use any art form in order to express their thoughts in a creative and comprehensive way.
Persons above the age of 16 years and living in Namibia, are welcome to submit pictures, paintings, collages, craftwork etc. Stage performances using songs, music, theatre plays, poems and the likes are welcome. There are no limits to your imagination. All contributions must be in line with the motto of the competition, “Express yourself!”.
The competition will be held under the auspice of Professor Marianne Zappen-Thomson (UNAM).
In the categories “visual arts” and “performing arts”, all entries have to be submitted as individual or group entries and in writing by 8 October 2012 at the latest.
Competition criteria can be found in the below download file.
Please hand in your entries in German. Entries for the “visual arts” category have to be accompanied by a short, written description. For further details on the competition and the entry criteria, please see the attached “Call for Submission” Once a preliminary selection has been made, the organising committee will send a notification to all selected participants.
The event itself, the presentation of the entries and the prize-giving ceremony will be held on 22 November, 19h15 at the Goethe-Centre. An independent jury will assess the entries. The winners of the first, second and third prize will receive attractive cash prizes.
